Inspiration - St Patrick's Day

This year was my first time making something for St Patricks' Day. I wasn't going to make anything and I was working on other quilt projects, so I made this decision very last minute. So I wanted something that would be a quick make. I had always wanted to try making a plaid quilt top, so after googling some pictures of plaid and finding something I liked, I dug through my scrap bin looking for greens I could use. I needed a light, medium and a dark fabric for this mini quilt.
I started by ironing my scraps and cutting them into strips. I sewed three strips together to make each set, and then I sub cut those sets into smaller blocks.
Once I sewed all the blocks together to make my mini quilt top, I layered it onto a scrap piece of batting and quilted it. Yes that's right, I didn't quilt the backing. It's a mini quilt so it's ok. And I wanted to hide the applique on the back of the quilt. So I used the pillowcase method (also called bagging out) to put this together. You sew the backing and the quilt top together (right sides together) and then you turn it inside out.
I quilted this mini quilt with a wavy line grid, perfect for hiding all of those mismatched points. Then I cut out a four-leaf clover out of some fabric fused with HeatnBond. I sewed around the edges of the four-leaf clover using a blanket stitch on my sewing machine.

Once that was done I made a label for my mini quilt and attached it to my quilt backing. I also added a cute little woven label by Sarah Hearts that says "Made in CA". I sewed everything together using that pillowcase method I mentioned and turned it inside out. I top stitched around the outside edge and voila it was done!
I had never tried the blanket stich on my machine before and I knew going around the clover might be tricky because of the curves, so I wanted to practice before doing it for real. I cut out a second clover and made a little coaster so I could try the stitch out on that first. It helped me a lot to do that first.
