I want to show off this piano bag I made last year, because I think it's just so cute and I've gotten so many compliments on it. I was inspired by my Roland Go Keys, which is a ruby red keyboard. Because of it's unique look, I thought this would be great for a bag, and that it would sort of look also like a keytar!

The first thing I did was measure the length and width of the white keys. Then I added in the seam allowance before I cut out my strips. I wish I took a picture of the strips but unfortunately I didn't. Next I measured the width and length of the black keys, but because I appliqued these on, I didn't need to add in the seam allowance. So, once I sewed my strips together to make up the white keys, I appliqued the black keys on top to make them look like piano keys.

Then I added some ruby fabric around the piano keys to make the rest of the keyboard. I wanted one octave for my bag so that's how many keys I did, but if you wanted to make the bag bigger or smaller you could add however many keys you want!

I used a stiffer, fusible interfacing so my bag could hold its shape, but you can use any interfacing you like, or you can use batting and quilt the bag front and back panels.
I made a panel for the back using some pretty floral fabric I had, and some more purple fabric for the inside of the bag. I used a nylon web for the straps, and made little handles to attach the webbing to the bag.

Then I sewed the whole bag together and viola! It was done and ready to be used. I love this little bag, and it feels so personal and unique.

I love my little one-of-a-kind bag. If you are a piano player then why not make a little piano bag? Or maybe a different instrument!
